Nine Inch Nails began back in 1988 when Trent Reznor spent the whole year balancing on the tightrope of insanity whilst trying to complete the debut album "Pretty Hate Machine". Following a short period in 1991 spent blowing Guns 'n Roses off the stage in Europe, Reznor headed back to the studio s to record "Broken". It was later joined by its companion piece "Fixed" which consisted of a number of remixes of the "Broken" songs that bore little or no resemblance to the originals. In 1994 Reznor unleashed "The Downward Spiral", a tip of the hat to the events that shocked America in 1969 and drove the final nail into the coffin of the hippie dream of peace and love: the rise of the Dune Buggy Attack Battalion and the Death Valley days of Charles Mason. Reznor later lent his attention to Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers", and most recently David Lynch's "The Lost Highway".
